Tanggal 26 November 2011 menjadi tanggal misterius runtuhnya jembatan Tenggarong, jembatan yang dibangun tahun 1995 dan selesai tahun 2001 oleh kontraktor PT Hutama Karya. Jembatan ini menghubungkan kota Tenggarong dengan kecamatan Tenggarong seberang yang menuju Samarinda.
Panjang Bentang tengah jembatan ini 270 meter, dan panjang total 710 meter.
Kronologinya pada pagi hari jembatan ini dilakukan perbaikan satu sisi badan jembatan tanpa melakukan penutupan jembatan. Perbaikan yang dilakukan yaitu pengenduran dan pengencangan baut, nah diduga karena beban berlebihan dan dalam kondisi beberapa baut kendur tiba-tiba tali di bagian bentang tengah arah sisi Tenggarong putus, hanya dalam waktu singkat seluruh tali penopang dibagian bentang tengah ikut putus dan jembatan runtuh. Dari kabar berita sedikitnya lima orang tewas dan belasan luka, mobil tercebur di sungai Mahakam.
